Good evening. We interrupt this program to bring you a live update on an unexpected event. On Sunday, April 18, 2010, the Central Youth Group won first place at the Tecumseh Church of Christ Volleyball tournament held in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Some of you are probably wondering how exactly that came to be, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly what you are going to find out.
Sunday started out a cold and rainy day. The youth group met early to drive to Tecumseh. The drive was good. The worship service was wonderful. The day was off to a great start. Here is a picture of the girls enjoying a nice lunch.

Again, it must be stressed that the day was going along quite nicely. Everyone was happy, nothing out of the ordinary. These teens always find a way to have a great time when they are together. Here is a picture of the group enjoying watching the other teams play. No one seems too interested in competing at this point. They are just happy to be there.

Then it was time for the Central team to play. They had a few great serves. They had a few great hits. They had a few great laughs. Serves + Hits + Laughs = Victory for the Central Team

Then, they laughed a little more,

and they won a few more, and before you knew it, this happened...

They found themselves in the semi-finals.

And it was no longer time for fun...or laughing...or even smiling.
Please meet the members of the 2010 Tecumseh Volleyball Tournament Championship Team.

Something had changed. This was no longer the happy go lucky bunch that had arrived that morning. With these tough volleyball beasts to face, the other teams were left shaking in their tennis shoes. The Central Team took first place without a backwards glance.
And what would you know? The tough acts disappeared, and the smiles returned so quickly, you would have never known that they had temporarily disappeared.

The trophy was awarded to them.

The team posed for pictures.

They joyfully celebrated all the way home.

It seemed like the picture perfect day. Yet, there is a lingering feeling of uneasiness and anxiety. Where did those intense, fierce, and ferocious attitudes and exteriors come from? Perhaps that doesn't matter. Perhaps the most important question is...Will those attitudes ever return? Maybe they won't. Maybe they will...when you least expect it.
